We all have times when it seems as though there something preventing us from moving the ball down the field. Getting stuck is normal. Staying stuck can be detrimental to reaching your goals.

I have five steps to get you unstuck today.

Start Where You Are

No matter what you want to accomplish, the first and most critical step is to start where you are. Have you put off getting starting until Monday? Monday has been the killer of more goals than Hagen Das. If you have anything on your list to execute, don't wait for perfection. Do it now!

Revisit Your Vision Board

Do you have a vision board? I bet you do and don't even realize it. If you have ever screenshot a picture of something interesting on your phone, you have begun the process. Vision boards are an amazing way to visualize and focus on what we want to accomplish and achieve. There is something powerful about imposing an image of a goal on our conscience. As they say, seeing is believing, and the act of creating a collection of our dreams to remind us of what we are working towards can be truly inspiring.

Change Things Up

Routine can be a gift and a curse. The same routine that gives consistency and order can also create complacency and stagnation. Now and again, break the rules and hold a meeting at a park. Take a Monday off and go site seeing. A change of scenery can inspire new ideas, change your mood or even break a creativity block. Don't be afraid to step outside of the box. There may be something quite remarkable on the outside.

Anticipate Roadblocks

The preverbal bump the road happens to the best of us, but some potholes are clear as day. Learning to prepare for the unexpected is a talent that all good leaders must become well versed in. Many times, the unforeseen is far more evident than we acknowledge. Though we cannot anticipate all challenges, many present themselves in advance if we pay attention.

Remember Gratitude

The value of gratitude cannot be overstated. The simple act of being grateful has an incredible way of drawing more of what we are thankful for to us. Gratitude activates the people, situations, and circumstances to move on our behave. We often forget that the things we take for granted are treasures to others. Even the most minimal accomplishment has value. Be grateful in every act.

Feeling unmotivated or stuck is very common with all the demands that come with professional life. The key to getting unstuck is to have strategies to counteract the paralysis of feeling creatively blocked. Using the steps listed above may not be the only solution to breaking the cycle. Still, they will be great starting points for getting you out of a rut.
